About the waste sorting labels

The waste sorting labels on packaging show consumers at a glance how to correctly separate and dispose of their packaging. Often, consumers are unsure about the proper way to dispose of packaging after use, which leads to valuable materials being lost from the recycling loop.

An online survey conducted by YouGov Deutschland GmbH on behalf of Trennhinweis e.V. reveals the positive impact of the labels: Packaging featuring the Trennhinweis e.V. waste sorting labels is almost twice as likely to be correctly disposed of compared to packaging without them.

The waste sorting labels contribute to increasing the amount of packaging collected and improving the quality of collected materials. Additionally, the standardised labels help producers educate consumers and enhance the transparency required by law regarding manufacturers’ responsibility for packaging in accordance with § 9 of the German Packaging Act (VerpackG).

The waste sorting labels are available free of charge to all producers registered with the Central Agency Packaging Register (ZSVR).
